Stalker's dark room: playing an escape room in the dark

Stalker is our hardest 60-minute room, with six keys out of six. Part of the reason is that a section of the game takes place in a dark room, the first one ever built into an escape room.

Why is there a dark room?

The story follows a photographer with dangerous obsessions. Photographers develop their work in darkrooms, so the room plays with what you can and can’t see. Your hands and ears become as useful as your eyes.

Is Stalker scary?

It’s tense rather than terrifying. There are no live actors in Stalker, and the door can always be opened from inside. Your Game Master follows the game on camera the whole time.

How do teams solve the dark room?

  1. Talk constantly. In the dark, describing what you feel and hear is everything.
  2. Assign roles. One person searches, one remembers, one connects the dots.
  3. Use your hints. Your Game Master sends one whenever you ask. That’s what they’re for.

Who should play Stalker?

Teams of 2–6 who already have a few escape rooms behind them, or competitive first-timers who want a real test. For a gentler start, try Seven.
